William Mack Edwards, 86, passed on to his heavenly home, Friday, July 5, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital. Born on September 16, 1937, in Asheville, NC, Mack was the husband to Brenda Crowe Edwards and a son to the late Cecil Bolick Edwards and the late Louise Ramseur Wilson.
A man of many passions, Mack found joy in sports, particularly football, and proudly wore the uniform of the Furman Paladins during his collegiate years. He possessed a keen love for golf, reveling in the thrill of each swing and putt. A dedicated Atlanta Braves fan, his fervor for the team never wavered.
Mack’s faith was an integral part of his being, as he wholeheartedly shared the teachings of God throughout his life. His belief led him to be rebaptized in the sacred waters of the River Jordan, a testament to his unwavering devotion. As a revered member of the Mt. Airy Baptist Church, he served as a Sunday School teacher, guiding countless individuals in their spiritual journey and participated in numerous mission trips through the years. His commitment extended to the Released Time program of the Upstate, highlighting his deep-rooted faith and dedication to spreading God’s word.
Mack retired as a high school teacher and coach with over 30 years tenure. He also served his country as a U.S. Army Reservist and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with honor.
His spirit will forever resonate within the hearts of his devoted spouse, Brenda; his beloved son, Mark Edwards (Leigh Ann); two step-daughters, Ginny Pekarik and Shawn Mattaliano (Al); sisters, Gail Hosea, Linda Ward, Lisa Jackson; a brother, CB Edwards; seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Joni Rye.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, let us remember William Mack Edwards with fondness, gratitude, and everlasting love. His memory will forever grace our lives, guiding us with the light of his enduring legacy.
Join us as we honor Mack’s legacy at a Memorial Service to be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 3:00 pm in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel, with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm prior to the service.
