Melba Whitehurst Roberson of Six Mile, SC went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday July 2, 2011.
Born September 26, 1920 in Martin County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Zebulan Vance & Reba Corey Whitehurst. She taught Bible study and was involved in missions most of her adult life. She & her husband, the late William Gordon Roberson, were faithful members of Temple Baptist Church in Newport News, VA, for 53 years working side by side for their Lord. In 2000, she became a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church, Chesapeake, Va, and was a current member of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church of Six Mile, SC where she lived the last 3 years of her life.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Judy Dierkes, and Nina Smith and her husband Carson; a son, Tim Roberson and his wife Beverly; a sister Dorothy Jaskwich; a brother Glenn Whitehurst and his wife Carolyn; 5 grandchildren, Kevin Harrison, Karen Lupton, Kelly Roberson, Ashley Fazal, and Michael Smith; 8 great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren, and 13 step-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a grandson, Clark Smith.
Funeral services to honor Mrs. Roberson’s life will be 3:00 PM Friday, July 8, 2011 at Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News, Virginia. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Peninsula Memorial Park.
Also, the family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 6:00 until 7:00 PM at Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church in Six Mile.
