Funeral services for Mr. Whitaker will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 11, 2017 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. A visitation will be held Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Liberty Mortuary from 4:00 until 6:00 PM. Burial at Ruhamah Baptist Church Cemetery will be held later in the week following the inclement weather.

Lewis Edward Whitaker, 60, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Friday, September 8, 2017 at his residence. Born in Pickens, he was the husband of Shirley Chapman Whitaker of the home and a son of the late Ben Whitaker, Jr. and Catherine Chambers Whitaker. He retired from Vulcan Materials after working there for over 30 years. He was an avid Clemson Tigers fan and loved spending time with family and friends. Lewis especially loved his Lord and Savior and attending church at Ruhamah Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Bradley Whitaker of Central; 3 sisters, Judy Roper of Liberty, Barbara Andrews(Jimmie) of Pickens and Edith Bryson of Liberty; a brother, Garvin Whitaker of Liberty; and 2 grandchildren, Dylan and Dawson Whitaker, both of Central.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a half-sister, Norma Jean Burns; and a brother in law, George Roper .
