Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Whitmire will be conducted 3:00 PM Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Roanoke Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Johnny James Whitmire, 79, of 6 Jackson Street, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2018 at his home. Born in Liberty he was a son of the late Clyde and Essie Porter Whitmire.

He retired from Greenwood Mills with 44 years of service and is a longtime member of Roanoke Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty Crowe Whitmire of the home; a son, Keith Whitmire (Karen) of McCormick; a daughter in law, Debbie Whitmire of Easley; 5 sisters, Gladye Mae, Yvonne, Sue, Diane, and Kathy; three brothers, Claude, Bobby, and Haskell; five grandchildren, Brooke Whitmire (her fiancé, Steven Cummings), Madeline and Heidi Whitmire, Kasey McTier and Katelyn Thompson.

In addition to his mother and father he was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Whitmire, two sisters, Lucille and Sylvia, and two brothers, Roy and Donald.
