Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Sargent will be 11:00AM Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 until 10:45 AM at the mortuary.
Jason Carl “Tuffy” Sargent, 89, husband of Christine Scott Sargent, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Hospice House in Anderson. Born in Liberty he was a son of the late David S. and Leota Whitlock Sargent.
He retired from Woodside Mills and was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 70 years, are two sons, Stan Sargent (Fran) of Liberty, and Phil Sargent (Jane) of Easley; three grandchildren, Heather Goss (Stephen), Courtney Harmon (Roy), and Caroline Sargent; also surviving are three great grandchildren, Annie and McKinley Goss, and Jenifer Jane Harmon.
He was a former City of Liberty Councilman, a little league coach, and was the Pickens-Liberty Lions Club Citizen of the Year in 1988.
Mr. Sargent was actively involved in the Boy Scouts for many years, he was the Scoutmaster of Troop 172, leading over 20 boys to the rank of Eagle Scout. He also received the Good Shepherd Award, and the Silver Beaver Award from B.S.A.
The family will be at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to East Side Baptist Church, 920 Anderson Drive, Liberty SC 29657.
