Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Burns will be 3:00 PM Tuesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 until 2:45 PM at the mortuary.
Charles Austin Burns, Sr., 78, of Burns Hill Road, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late Styles D. and Phoebe Owens Burns. He worked for Saco Lowell for many years, and later for American Security. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Burns was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Eloise Tompkins Burns of the home; four sons, Melvin, Sammy, Phil, and Mark Burns, all of Liberty; three sisters, Sarah Simmons of Greenville, Brenda Holliday of Easley, and Ann Becknell of Liberty; four brothers, Alvin, Tommy, and Gene Burns all of Liberty, and Wayne Burns of Slabtown; six grandchildren, Amanda Wood, Austin Burns, II, Ryan N. Burns, Blake Burns, Casey Burns, and Carly Burns; four great grandchildren, Davis Crowder, Conners Wood, Alexis Burns, and Anna Grace Burns.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three brothers, Styles Dendy, Jr., Ronnie, and James Robert Burns.
