Byron David Pickens, 79, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 12, 2019 at his residence. Born in Azalia, Michigan he was a son of the late Ernest Franklin and Doris Lafler Pickens. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later retired from American Airlines after 39 years of service. He loved vegetable gardening and his precious cats, Josephine, Albert and Jill.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Joyce Strohl Pickens of the home; a daughter, Donna Duncan(Dale) of Liberty; a son, Ernie Pickens(Kathy) of Fairview Texas; 2 sisters, Joyce Studnicka of Mancelona, Michigan and Mary Rehberg of Dundee, Michigan; 4 grandchildren, Amber Marquez, Sam Pickens, Megan Pickens and Jake Pickens; and 1 great grandchild, Venice Marquez.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Wells; and a brother, Franklin Pickens.

No services are planned at this time. The family will be at the home.

Bryon was the reserved, quiet guy who could bring life to any garden. I remember many nights sitting in their house with my late husband, eating, drinking and just enjoying Picken Friendship. One of the best memories I have is the trip to Bristol Tenn. a weekend I'll never forget. Much love and prayers and hugs Patricia Rountree

Was saddened to learn of Byrons passing..He will always be the farmer with a big heart sharing with everyone- Larry and I liked to visit and we never went away empty handed!! We always had to have an adult beverage with them and sit and visit for hours. The picture is so him. ! Larry mentioned many time this planting season how he missed Byron. Please know that we are thinking of you all and that his spirit lives on! He was a good dad and you were good children- glad he was close and you could be with Joyce and him at the end. My thoughts & prayers are with ya'll. I worked with Byron in DTW AA. I remember mostly him traveling with his bride to see their triplet grandchildren after he retired. He was always so cheerful & such a proud Grandpa. He was always sharing pictures and grinning ear to ear as he was sharing. Byron you were loved by all that you worked with. Heaven has gained another angel. God bless you all!
