Funeral services to honor Becky’s life will be conducted 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the mortuary.
Becky Mahaffey Stokes, 72, of 107 S. 4th Street, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 15, 2019. Born in Liberty she was the widow of John Francis “Buck” Stokes and a daughter of the late Heyward and Helen Gilstrap Mahaffey.
She retired from JP Stevens and was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Alicia Newman of Hartsville; three grandchildren, John Leslie of Easley, Luke Leslie of Greenville, and Chelsea Canipe of Columbia; also surviving are two great grandchildren, Easton Leslie and Crawford Canipe.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Mahaffey and a sister, Hazel Smith.

Becky was a dear and cherished lady. I have many fond memories of our childhood friendship which continued into adulthood. We often went rollerskating, listened to new records, attended concerts, and went on family vacations to Myrtle Beach. Later in life, we worked together at JP Stevens. She was very much loved by all my family and she made sure we knew that she loved us, too. Becky was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was selflessly devoted to her brother Allen throughout his entire life. She had infinite love for her family, which she spoke of often. I was honored by her friendship and it brought me great joy to spend time together with my friend and her beautiful daughter, Alicia. Becky will be greatly missed. Becky was a kind, caring, and loving person. It was an honor to be her friend. She will be greatly missed. She was my dear friend since childhood. Many summers we went to Myrtle Beach with her parents and she often went with my family on trips. She was very much loved by my family, and she also loved them. I will always remember the Christmas she bought my mother a beautiful winter coat. I have many fond teen-age memories with Becky of roller skating, trips to the beach, listening to new records, and attending concerts in Greenville. Later, we worked together at JP Stevens.
