Alice Anne Kelley Brown, born October 21, 1927, died January 21, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents, Sybil Chamblin and Lee Jones Kelley, her husband, Drennan H. Brown, DDS, her aunts Sallie Mae Chamblin Catherwood, Irene Chamblin Rankin, Cornelia Kelley Chalmers, Ruth Kelley Chatham Kelley, Edwina Kelley Wilson, and Ovalyn Kelley Lathem, and her uncle David L. Chamblin. Also, predeceasing her were cousins Walter Eugene Rankin, Jr, Hayne K. Chatham, and Rae Chatham Seibert, Cherylyn C. Curl, Edwin Lathem, and Carol Kay Tomaras. She is survived by cousins, Edna Catherwood and Mark A. Kay and their son David A. Kay; Walter Eugene Rankin III, Libbie Jayne Rankin Hamilton, and Laura Ann Rankin Phillips; Jane Rankin McPhail and her children John S. McPhail, Jr. and Kelly Ryan; Mara Ann Chamblin and James L. Leverett and their children Elizabeth Leigh, Mara Lyn, Jaime Lauren, and Kelly Laura Leverett; Elizabeth L. Chamblin; Suzanne C. Sanders; Karen Elrod; and Beth Bigelow.
Anne was a graduate of Winthrop University and Columbia Presbyterian Seminary. She was a Director of Christian Education at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church in Newberry, SC. Later she was devoted to a career as a Certified Medical Assistant. She held offices on the local, state and national levels. She was a trustee of the American Association of Medical Assistants.
Anne had a deep love for animals and was a founding member of the Pickens County Humane Society and Animal Shelter. She volunteered in every capacity.
A graveside service for the family will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 12:00 PM at Westview Cemetery in Liberty, SC followed by a memorial service at Foothills Presbyterian Community, 205 Bud Nalley Drive, Easley, SC at 2:00 PM. Mrs. Brown will lie in state from 2:00 until 5:00 PM Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Liberty Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice or to the Chapel at Foothills Presbyterian Community, 205 Bud Nalley Dr., Easley, SC 29642. Liberty Mortuary is handling arrangements. www.libertymortuary.com
